Description
This is a rare 1963 first pressing of "She Loves You" with handwritten matrix and no dash or number following. The etched handwritten matrix is 7XCE-17395 and 7XCE-17396
Most if not all copies of this 45 rpm sold on eBay are described as 1963 pressings when in fact they were pressed in early 1964 and have a -2 following the matrix on the "She Loves You" side.
References indicate that Capitol Canada pressed only 1000 copies of this disc in September, 1963, with approximately 200 copies sent to radio stations and reviewers as promotional copies. Despite this promotion sales of the single languished through the fall of 1963 not selling well or charting at all.
It wasn't until late December 1963 and early 1964 that demand for this release increased. As sales took off additional records were pressed. However, the original pressing plate used in 1963 for the A-side was damaged so a new one was created with a new A-side matrix that ended with a -2.
As a result true 1963 pressing will have an A-side matrix of 7XCE-17395 while the 1964 pressing will have an A-side matrix of 7XCE-17395-2
I believe after the original 1963 "Love Me Do" the 1963 "She Loves You" is the rarest Canadian Beatles' single pressed by Capitol.
The vinyl is VG+ plays well The labels are VG+ minor wear and dark spot left from sticker removal on the A-side - see photographs The original glossy black sleeve as issued with 1963 pressings.
