Description

A Hard Day's Night 1964

1st Pressing

PMC 1230-Mono

Matrix: XEX 481-3N and XEX 482-3N

Stampers: 2H and 1G

Both sides of this disc deliver clear audio, with no distortion or appreciable wear, suggesting play on top equipment and although there are numerous, careless marks and scuffs on the vinyl surfaces, these do not create any problems throughout play. There are no loud clicks, jumps or stalls, just the occasional, barely audible pop, hardly worth mentioning. The whole disc really does perform brilliantly, with near silent run ins and no crackle at all.

The labels are unmarked and all text is undamaged and vibrant. There are numerous spindle trails but these are mainly confined to the centre areas.

The E J Day cover, made from thick card stock, is in fair condition for its age. Unusually for an EJD cover, the flipbacks are intact, with no missing paper. Front and back show laminate creases and the unprotected rear panel is quite grubby and has an original shop stamp (see below).

The original 'patents applied for', Emitex polythene lined inner sleeve is completely unsplit, displaying age toning, creasing and some missing paper from the top edge (as photo).

All in all, a fine 1st pressing with very early stampers.

The shop stamp is from St. Deny's Enterprise, in Southampton, which sold second hand vinyl during the 60's, 70's and 80's. I know because I used to visit it myself. Sadly it is long gone and although the wording has faded, it states: St. Deny's Enterprise, records bought and sold, 59 St. Deny's Road, Portswood, Southampton.
