I can’t test-play vinyl at the minute, so with that said…

Some collectors are familiar with the notoriously edited MONO version of Paul’s “Jet” PROMO single for radio airplay.  The song was completely chopped up to just over half its original length in order to get it played on AM radio.  The edits are so jarring (I counted five of them) that the sound engineer who did them has never stepped forward.  Geoff Emerick has distanced himself from this mix and edit by never claiming credit (or rather discredit) for it.  One edit is so bad that it could easily be mistaken for the record skipping, but it really is a sloppy edit that was left in.  And the classic ending has been lopped off in favor of a looped fadeout.

Still more collectors are aware that there’s a very rare commercial copy of the single that mistakenly has this shorter running time on the label.  I wonder if it’s so rare, because had this promo really gotten airplay, they were concerned that it contained this mix?

Thankfully, this edited version was never released to the public, and to my knowledge has still never been released on any reissues or commemorative releases.  This is the only way you get to join an exclusive club of people who ever got to actually own it.

Vinyl: NM/NM.  Both sides look absolutely unplayed.

Plates: F1/F6.  Side 1 dead wax has the “PRO” prefix, which indicates the promo edit mix.  Side 2 dead wax has the same catalogue number as the commercially-released full-length single.  So you get them both.  Machine-stamped asterisk in the dead wax makes this copy pressed in Los Angeles.

Labels: NM/EX.  Side 1 label looks 1974-freshly printed.  Side 2 label has some very slight dirtwear embedded into the label from manufacture.

Sleeve: VG++.  Just some light label serration outdent and a couple of light finger divots.  NO SEAM SPLITS.

**Note:  All 45’s ship outside of their sleeves in order not to damage the sleeve during shipment. Generic plain, white sleeves and Mylar provided.**

This is going to be a fantastic Christmas gift for your collector who is impossible to shop for!

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
