READ THIS! These records are NOT sold for perfect sound quality. They’re sold for their scarcity and VISUAL grading. They’ve been in storage for a decade, and they WILL play with surface noise that can be addressed with D4 or a VPI cleaning.  I can’t test-play at the minute. Beatles-Related PROMO 1968 LP Apple George Harrison Wonderwall Music, VG

If I’m not mistaken, this is in fact, the first commercial Apple release to have a PROMO.  The only one to arguably predate it might have been Jackie Lomax’ “Sour Milk Sea” 45, originally released 3 months prior.  But the promo for that 45 was for the second issue with the switched B-side, “(I) Fall Inside Your Eyes,” which was promo’d after Wonderwall.

All Apple promo records prior to Wonderwall were press release discs issued before the public received them, and they were not promo pressings.

Apple promos from the 60’s are very rare to begin with.  This is the Apple title that the label chose to begin with. 

(Did you catch how I made a double meaning out of that phrase?  Woo-hoooooooo!)

A 1968 hippie DJ decided to use red pen to annotate and do her own artwork, for those who collect hippie art.

Vinyl--- Strong VG/VG+.  Grading conservatively, another collector certainly wouldn’t be wrong to grade the sides VG+/EX.  85 to 90% original shine, very light lines only.

Plates--- X2/X2.  Machine-stamped triangle with the letters, “IAM” inside it makes this copy pressed by Scranton.

Cover--- Strong VG.  “FREE” hole-punched in the top right corner.  I grade it VG, because of two main issues.  First, there is the date and radio station call letters in red pen on the front and back, some light artwork on the back.  Secondly, there is a bottom seam center split about 3 inches.

Insert--- VG.  “FREE” hole-punched in the top right corner.  Would have graded VG+, except that there is more hippie artwork on the reverse.  It’s kind of cool, but it’s still writing, so I’m not sure which way to go.  Is it defacement, or is it collectible historic artwork?

It’s all up to what you value down to where you are, as the man said.

Labels--- EX/EX.  Nice, clean labels with only a few very light spindle marks per side.

Apple Inner Sleeve--- Generic white inner sleeve with die-cut hole for the labels to show is present.  NO SPLITS.

A generic inner sleeve will be provided, so as not to damage your original Capitol inner sleeve en route.

As these records have been in storage for many years, they will play back with crackling and tics, however; a good moisturizing and cleaning with either D4 Discwasher or a VPI machine always clears them up.  Thanks!)
