Description
The contributions of Sir George Martin as the Beatles musical director and producer of almost all of the Beatles’ recordings have influenced many to consider him as “the Fifth Beatle”. His contributions to many songs and his instrumental accompaniments to LPs are beyond measure and too numerous to list here. Martin’s extensive musical training and sophisticated guidance in the studio are often credited as fundamental contributions to the work of the Beatles.

The LP is a RARE UNITED ARTISTS WHITE LABEL PROMOTIONAL ISSUE.

As you probably know, PROMOTIONAL or PROMO RECORDS for short, were released by record companies ONLY to the radio stations and DJs for airplay (to promote the artists, new single or new LP) or to music stores/departments for in-store play. They were not released to, sold to, or made available to the general public. PROMO RECORDS (depending on the artist, song or LP) have become VERY DESIRABLE to vinyl collectors due to their very-limited production numbers (scarcity) and non-availability to the public.

The Beatles appear on the cover. (This is the same image that is inside the gate-fold cover of the Capitol Records “HELP!” original motion picture soundtrack LP.) Their images were protected and did not appear on the cover of many LPs that were not Capitol/Apple Records pressings.

This LP contains instrumental versions of 7 Beatles songs that were in the motion picture “HELP!” plus 5 other Beatles songs.

On the rear cover, three of the songs printed on the B-Side are identified by their early working titles: “Auntie Gin’s Theme” for “I’ve Just Seen A Face”, “That’s A Nice Hat (Cap)” for “It’s Only Love”, and “Scrambled Egg” for “Yesterday”.

However, the WHITE PROMO LABELS have the common titles for all of the songs, not their early working titles.

The COVER is in VERY NICE VG+ CONDITION. There is very light overall wear. There is moderate wear on 3 corners and a bit more wear on the lower right corner which is bald. The seams and the spine are very strong with NO flaking and NO seam splits. The top seam near the top of the spine has about 2 inches of cracking with NO paper loss. The bottom seam has a small “nick” under the word “HIGH”. There is light wear along the LP opening. The FRONT COVER IMAGE is NICE and CLEAN and WITHOUT WEAR. The white reverse cover is quite clean with light wear and light to moderate aging/foxing. There’s a small bit of wear (about 1 ½ inches near the lower right corner on the white reverse cover slick.

The VINYL is in NICE VG CONDITION with a number of light/slight surface hairlines/scuffs that are NOT FEEL-ABLE at all to the touch. The vinyl has LOTS OF GLOSS!

The United Artists WHITE PROMOTIONAL LABELS are PRIMARILY CLEAN AND WHITE; however, a previous owner used a black marker to cover the line “NOT FOR SALE” that is printed under the catalog number on both labels. The B-Side label has some light wear around the blacked-out line where it looks like someone tried to remove the marker ink.

This LP comes with what I believe is its ORIGINAL UNITED ARTISTS PAPER INNER SLEEVE that pictures other UA LPs out at the time including the Beatles’ “A Hard Day’s Night” Sound Track LP.
IT’S A VERY NICE RARE BEATLES-RELATED LP BY “THEIR BRILLIANT RECORDING DIRECTOR”, GEORGE MARTIN, THAT NO BEATLES VINYL COLLECTION SHOULD BE WITHOUT! (I’m sure you probably know how really tough these United Artists White Label Promo LPs are to come by!!!)
