the Bee Gees - Trafalgar 1971, UK Polydor 2310-09 - EX- / NM- Audio - a Stunning play tested copy - it's format is obvious vinly and the Gatefold has been done an injustice with the photographs listed - Pococks' picture which has been copied from his painting is unbelievable, with the outer sleeve being the engagement of the crafts and inside the brothers themselves depicting the scene of the interpretation regard the death of Nelson but this really is only the start further inside on a play testing level the sound of this cut is exceptional - the lead song Side 1 How Can You Mend A Broken Heart opens with beautiful clarity - Robins lead is clean full of emotion and expressive - Barrys' harmonies warm and perfectly separate, Israel ( Tk2 ) reveals delicate "s" textures and breath detail - no distortion, no groove wear. this magical music carries through until you reach the treat of B side. The title song blows it's own message with a depth and presence; orchestral passages are warm and supportive - never muddy midway Robin shows his full vocal talent both with When Do I with his soft lower tones to controlled upper lines with superb clarity but the stand out is Robins declaration on DEAREST his tremors and emotional vibrato come through with remarkable intimacy. The piano is expressive but natural and the closing strings are rich without overpowering the vocal. Overall Side 2 plays very close on the edge to M+ throughout. The LP overall showcases the Bryan Stott's engineering with in the I.B.C Studios and fully captures strings, piano, harmonies and orchestral sounds being - supportive, emotional but never overwhelming
