Straight Records STS1053 VG+/VG+/VG+ matrix nos.STS-1053 VERY RARE US original WHITE LABEL PROMO 2 LP w Iyric INSERT set on the Straight label with matching numbers for cover, vinyl and matrix nos. After releasing a couple of blues based albums that didn't sell, Don Van Vliet aka Captain Beefheart was offered by Frank Zappa to record on his newly formed Straight Record label. The idea was to record free of artistic restrictions which the major labels usually demanded. The result was, Beefheart's 28 songs were written in a day or 2. The sound remained blues based, BUT had elements of free form jazz, African chant rhythms, wierd guitar and drums parts jumping all over. Topped off with the Captain's poetic mindlessness lyrics, the listener has one of the MOST imaginative albums of all-time!!!! Listening to it completely today still requires the utmost attention and extreme discipline. But it remains a classic recording in this mainstream world of modern music!!!!! A MONSTER!!!!
The gatefold cover has some edge and corner wear, but a solid spine. The vinyls are both shiny and clean, w couple of light scuffs/handling marks. The white labels are excellent real spindle marks. A VERY RARE white label promo masterpiece to say the least!!!! Check my other Beefheart and Zappa RARE albums on ebay this week & most weeks. I am selling off 50% are my Beefheart/Zappa record Collection due to insufficient space, some are white label PROMO's!!!!!!!!!
This item must be MEGA RARE!!! There cannot be many DJ.W/L PROMO copies of TROUT MASK REPLICA floating about - Certainly not with such a GREAT signature. A few large debts have come up and unfortunately this long-sought after item must go now. I done a little research a W/L Promos w lyric INSERTS fetch around £50 - £150 the fact that this is signed and has GENUINELY been play-graded and sounds MAGNIFICENT must make this worth at least it's starting price if not much more.
Item is 100% GENUINE and was sold to a US Fan on tour in 1977 -
