Description:  I have to admit my knowledge of classical music/records is pretty limited. Therefore I do not know if this is an original pressing or not (text under notes on bottom of rear sleeve says 'Notes copyright Neville Marriner 1959' & 'recording first published 1959') The label is light blue-ish with a silver outer ring...matrix numbers YAX 211-8 & YAX 212-17. Comes in a gold stickered (EMI stereophonic recording) front laminated flip back sleeve with poly-lined company inner. Sleeve has a yellow 'E' sticker on rear top right corner.

Condition:
Vinyl: Vg, visibly I would grade this as Vg+ as there are only some very light surface marks, no spindle wear and labels very clean (see other pic). I know noise is an issue on classical records so to be on the safe side I would grade it as Vg as there is some light surface noise in places but nothing, in my opinion anyway, that would detract from anyone's listening pleasure.
Sleeve: Vg, has a small scuff and feint brown mark to bottom left corner, some light corner/edge wear, laminate has shrunk slightly over the years and left a darker band where it once was, minor mark on bottom rear where a price sticker has been but not really that noticeable. Other than that just a few light creases/marks in the laminate in places. Inner has two small tears (approx 5mm) on opening edge, some light corner wear & minor creasing on the corners.

Record Grading System:

MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition.

EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of being played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have some light wear or creasing.

VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover and extra items, without any major defects is acceptable.

GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration etc.

FAIR: The record is still just about playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise and may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.

CD grading system:

As a general rule, CD's either play perfectly- in which case they are MINT - or they don't, in which case their value is minimal. CD's are difficult to grade visually as they can look perfect but actually be faulty, while in other cases they look damaged but still play perfectly. CD inlays and booklets are graded in the same way as record covers and sleeves. In general plastic CD trays can easily be replaced if they are broken or scratched, but card covers and digipaks are subject to the same wear as record sleeves.
