Beethoven Violin Concerto Kogan U.K. Columbia SAX 2252 Magic Notes 1 ED
Is this the most collectible of all Desert Island Discs. A sublime performance and a superb recording makes this early U.K. Columbia record much sought after.
Leonid Kogan with the Paris Conservatoire Orchestra conducted by Constantin Silvestri performs the Beethoven “Violin Concerto”. An English stereo pressing on the Columbia Label (SAX 2386), the labels are blue/green with silver border and “radio waves”, a groove, and black Columbia and stereo flash with magic note logo. The record has some minor surface scuffs and there is a deep scratch near the start of side one. This clicks at intervals for 5 and then 15 revolutions quite softly, and then again for about 7 revolutions, and although somewhat louder, this is bearable and disappears before the end of the orchestral introduction. Another small scuff on side two does not sound, and the record is of otherwise very good appearance and plays and sound superb with only occasional low-level surface noise. The cover laminate has rubbed, and there is a small yellow dot on the back - otherwise it is in very good condition.
