All records listed are in no less than EX condition (see above for actual grading). In some cases I may list a very rare record at a lesser grading but this will be described in detail. All items are graded conservatively according to Record Collectors Grading System Record Collectors Grading system (outlined at end of listing)

To answer some questions I've asked about this item. Its the ORIGINAL 1Y1//2Y1 & Made in Great Britain. VO Price code/No barcodes. Made in 1970.

Beggars Opera were a progressive rock band from Glasgow, Scotland, formed in Glasgow in 1969 by guitarist Ricky Gardiner. The line-up consisted of Ricky Gardiner (guitar/vocals) (born Richard Gardner, in 1948, Edinburgh, Lothian, Scotland), Alan Park (keyboards) (born 10 May 1951, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland), Martin Griffiths (vocals), Marshall Erskine (bass/flute) and Raymond Wilson (drums).

In 1970, after signing to Vertigo Records, the band recorded their first album Act One, and a single "Sarabande", which charted record in several European countries. The following year, for their second album, Waters of Change, the band were joined by Gordon Sellar (bass) (born 13 June 1947, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland). The single "Time Machine" from that album was successful in Germany, where the band toured extensively.

Erskine left the band before they recorded their third album, Pathfinder (1972), which included a cover version of Richard Harris hit " MacArthur Park". Several other personnel changes ensued, with Pete Scott replacing Martin Griffiths in 1972, and Linnie Paterson replacing Pete Scott in 1973. By 1973's final album, Get Your Dog Off Me, Beggars Opera were reduced to a trio of Gardiner, Park and Sellar.[

In 1974/76 a new version of Beggars Opera recorded two albums for Jupiter Records in Germany; "Sagittary", featuring Ricky Gardiner (guitar), Pete Scott (vocals), Virginia Scott (Mellotron) (born in 1948, Glasgow, Strathclyde, Scotland) and Mike Travis (drums), and "Beggars Can't Be Choosers" with Clem Cattini replacing Mike Travis on drums.

Ricky Gardiner went on to play for David Bowie on the Low album, and with Iggy Pop on the Lust for Life album as well as his Idiot tour of 1976. He co-wrote "The Passenger" with Iggy Pop.

Alan Park (organist) worked with Sir Cliff Richard for many years as musical director.

A cover of the Beggars Opera hit "Time Machine" was published in 2011 by the German band Alias Eye on their album In-Between, featuring former Beggars Opera singer Martin Griffiths alongside his son Philip Griffiths, the frontman of this group.

There will be no over egging so to speak of this offer, although I will explain in detail the condition & provenance of this very copy..

Original release on the swirl label which comes from my aunt's collection. She never played this L.P. more than a couple of times in it's 43 year life. Comes from a storming collection (more to listed following this) this was given as a gift I'm told from one of the bands original line-up (not sure exactly which member) but has to add to the appeal of worth. Anyway back in 1970 this was not a well known band/album. Hailing from Scotland, the band toured and played all the little venues on the circuit. So it was just a sweet gift at the time. As a result now in 2013 this has gained stature as a very elusive record. And In this condition it is near IMPOSSIBLE to locate a better example - I don't even want to get in to that to much. But for any possible new proud owner it will be an asset of beyond worth. If you need a copy of this to add to your existing collection of release's on the swirl logo? then this would be the final upgrade.

There are 24 photographs of the actual item, close up view below the end of this description. NO effects have been added to make it look better, it's just as it appears in these photographs taken by myself.  

Detailed condition :

The gated cover : Has the VO price code on the reverse & is a matt/textured feel cover. This is a gated original & has if I was to be EXTREME in my description, ONLY a miniscule amount of any cover storage. Some tiny parts on the corners & very bottom of the cover has some almost insignificant rub. The Inside is SPOTLESS. Front/back cover are very bold & bright in print. A super sturdy cover, with NO damp, dust, handwritten names, grubby marks, fade or ripping. The spine at the side is 100% solid. A couple of tiny parts of wear. See photos for your own idea as to how this looks. A fabulous looking item with a WOW factor. No ring wear or impression marks, no dampness or smell. VERY, VERY FRESH. 99.9% PERFECT.

The original 'Plastic bags can be dangerous' swirl inner bag is present and in fantastic condition, inner poly bag intact to the dust inner, with no loosening of glue. British patent # 80051B & 978989. No ripping, handwritten names or tearing. Still nice and bright in appearance, with very small part of wear on glued tab. No age in colour & looks as NEW!

The labels :

Both labels are free from any names, ripping or tearing, no faded print or ring wear around them. Inspected under both daylight & bright light. Only under any halogen bulb can any sign of prior use be seen & this is being critical on my part of the description. About 5 if that under extreme scrutiny & ONLY visable under bright light on SIDE -B-. Side -A- The swirl is near immaculate with no major issues to be listed. 95% PERFECT

The actual record has absolutely no warping & sits 100% flat on a turntable. No damage whatsoever. AMAZING vinyl appearance, with an amazing playing condition. I did not even want to play this one. But... I have to know what your actually being offered & to be both fair & precise in the description. Its sounding damn good people!! you might hear the very, very slightest of background noise ONLY on the play in.THIS IS EXTREME IN MY DESCRIPTION...It's a record from 1970 after all, and this will not down play/grade it. Its spectacular in its dynamics, the way it was made originally.

For your info :

I have sold a good few swirls in my listings so far I.E. Cressida's 'Asylum', Gentle Giants 'Octopus', Fairfiled Parlour, Manfred Mann, Nucleus etc.

Reason for mentioning is I'm aware of how these records were made & sometimes fall below the expected grade. This one along with those already sold to some delighted people, stands up to what's expected & so desired among  serious collectors worldwide.

There are no signs of heavy use or play, no needle blemish, no nail scuffs, no ingrained dust, no needle thrashing, no scratched marks or ANY type of possible damage that you could ever think of as a negative - NONE. Shines even under bright light like a new record. From 1970 it's looking better than some folk its same age! believe me you will be thrilled to receive this one. Its stunning. I checked the record under halogen bulb just to make sure & its simply' not going to get any better than this one. If you where to stare this record out? then you would only see the tiny expected hairline here or there. And that's being very fussy indeed in this part of the description. I don't want to even handle this record anymore - as it makes me nervous! 99.9% PERFECT

The record is now stored with the vinyl outside of the main cover & the dust inner has been replaced with a plain white, which will be included for delivery purpose's to avoid any slip up or splits to the original. I use custom BOX mailers & a secure way of packing all records offered. Record will be packed in a tough custom box DEFENDAPACK mailer as shown in the photos below. The mailer has a locking tab. The record will be placed outside its cover and inside a brand new polythene protector between two card stiffeners and sealed at the top with fragile marked masking tape. Items are labelled "handle with care".

Mint (M) The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet. booklet or poster are in perfect condiition. Records marked as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.

Excellent (EX) The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

Very Good (VG) The record has obviously been played many times, but displayes no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects is acceptable

Good (G) The record has been played so much that the sound quality has notceably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc

Fair (F) The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

Poor (P) The record will not play properly due to scratched, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing Bad (B) The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler

CD's and CASSETTES As a general rule CD's and Cassettes either play perfectly - inwhich case they are in Mint condition - or they don't, in which case their value is minimal. Cassette tape is liable to deteriorate with age, even if it remains unplayed, so care should be taken when buying old tapes. CD's are difficult to grade visually; they can look perfect but actually be faulty, while in other cases they may appear damaged but still play perfectly. Cassette and CD inlays and booklets should be graded in the same way as record covers and sleeves. In general, the plastic containers for cassettes and CDs can easily be replaces if they are broken or scratched, but card covers and digipaks are subject to the same wear as record sleeves
