Vinyl Record History: Belafonte at Carnegie Hall was originally recorded in 1959 as a Benefit Performance for The New Lincoln School, April 19, 1959; Wiltwyck Scholl, April 20, 1959. Though the recording was made in 1959, research of this double album set has discovered it was most likely manufactured between late 1960 and early 1961 in Indianapolis for RCA as it bears the mark of "I" stamped on the runouts between the recordings and the label.
Artist History: Harry Belafonte was born in Harlem, N.Y. in 1927 to emigrants from the Caribbean islands of Martinique and Jamaica. When his mother returned to Jamaica in 1935, Harry went with her, and lived there until 1940. In the mid-1940s Harry left high school to serve in the U.S. Navy.. Most commonly known for his famous song Day-O which as nicknamed the Banana Boat song and featured in the movie "Beetlejuice".
Double LP Album Condition:
- Gatefold Cover: (NM): Near Mint: Cover is in beautiful condition with the exception of some bumps along the bottom of the cover that do not split the spine (see last image) and an approximate 1/4" wide x 1" long separation of film along the opening of the cover on the back side or I'd have listed this as Near Mint. Inside gatefold is in excellent condition. No fading of graphics or writing.
- Vinyl Records (NM) Near Mint: Both Vinyl Records still have high gloss shine with some light scuffs and scratches. Scuffs and scratches are not visible in the images. Do not appear to have been played a lot.
- Labels: In Excellent Condition.
- Record Sleeves: Includes original record sleeves. (with new static and scratch resistant record sleeves inside).
