Description
Disguised as Lloyd Keating, Ben Selvin and his Orchestra perform "Love Letters in the Sand" and "I Don't Know Why (I Just Do)" on "double track" Velvet Tone 10002-V. Each side contains an instrumental version by Selvin and a vocal version by Jerry Solow. The rim is marked to indicate where to put the stylus to play the version you want. It's a clever idea.
The exact personnel is shrouded in mystery, but the instrumental version of "Love Letters" includes a pretty 16-bar solo by Bunny Berigan, in a cup mute.
Bunny Berigan (tp); poss. Tommy Dorsey (tb); 2 unknown (reeds); poss. Joe Venuti and another (vln); poss. Arthur Schutt (p); unknown (g); unknown (tu); unkwon (d); Ben Selvin (dir). Recorded in New York on September 9, 1931.
This record is in EE+ condition generally, except for two issues on the "Love Letters" side; there are a few barely visible process lines that do not sound on my equipment; and some kind of blemish rustles eight times at the beginning of the music. Except for the brief rustling, the record plays EE+. The sleeve is in very good condition except for a small tear at the top of one side (visible in the first photo).
I'm a longtime collector who is downsizing. I know how to pack records.
