Original US LP released in 1961 on Deep Groove Reprise Records Label. Cat: R2001. This album is in MONO.
Over the next few weeks I will be listing some wonderful Jazz titles from a recently acquired Jazz collection. The original owner passed away back in 1985 and his sister decided to hold onto them for sentimental reasons. She had not touched or played them since then (1985!!). The records are in stunning condition for their age many, apart from a few light age spots on the covers, look like they walked off the shelf yesterday. I hope you enjoy viewing and possibly purchasing these wonderful jazz vinyl artifacts as much as i have in preparing them for sale and listening to them!!
The veteran tenor Ben Webster had a very warm tone on ballads that contrasted with the aggressive biting sound he used on faster material. For this 1960 set Webster is joined by a string quartet (arranged by Johnny Richards) and a rhythm section for his melodic interpretations of a dozen standards. Even when simply stating the melody, Webster brings out unexpected beauty in the songs.

Tracks: The sweetheart of sigma chi/ Stella by starlight/ With every breath I take/ Accent of youth/ But beautiful/ Time after time/ I’m beginning to see the light/ It was so beautiful/ The whiffenpoof song/ It’s easy to remember/ There’s no you.

There are a few light spindle marks on labels. Record has one tiny mark at beginning of side one that cause a few low pops otherwise record plays in Excellent condition. Cover has some light marks, age spots, a tiny pen mark on back, a few tiny surface tears around edges and a light stamp on back. Cover is in VG+ condition.
