Benny Goodman 1938 Carnegie Hall Jazz Concert Box Set SL-160 2 x LP VG/VG+. Condition is "Used". Shipped with USPS Media Mail.
This set has been play-tested and it sounds magnificent. The inside 4-page book is attached and in excellent condition. 
About this album: This is it! A MUST for ever serious collector's shelf. The first LP (Long-Playing) jazz album ever made. It was and is also THE most influential and groundbreaking for myriad reasons. It was Columbia Records' very first LIVE record, the first double LP, and the first million-selling LP. The music contained was "the single most important jazz or popular music concert in history" according to the New Grove Encyclopedia. Some of the greatest jazz musicians of all time gathered together for this historic occasion. This was the very first jazz concert at Carnegie Hall, the home of "respectable" music, thus changing the public view of jazz and Big Band music forever. Not only that, they happened to be recording that historic evening:

It was January 16, 1938, a Sunday night (and a cold one); Benny Goodman and His Orchestra were booked at Carnegie Hall in NYC, along with special guests invited by promoter John Hammond and Goodman himself including Count Basie, Johnny Hodges, Freddie Greene, Bobby Hackett, plus Benny’s all-stars including Lionel Hampton, Gene Krupa, Harry James, Jess Stacy, Teddy Wilson, and Martha Tilton, plus Fletcher Henderson’s brilliant arrangements. From the opening notes of “Don’t Be That Way” to the “Twenty Years of Jazz” segment, to the BG Trio/Quartet tunes, to the epic 12-minute “Sing Sing Sing” performance, every moment was and is just about as good as it can get.
