"Benvenuto Luciano": 2-sided Pavarotti picture disc, from 1985 tour - Decca

This handsome and rare picture disc from Decca · Teldec (6.20431 TS, German Teldec pressing, DDD stereo) entitled “Benvenuto Luciano!” features a limited edition “Special Tour Release 1985” – dated 14 June 1985, Hamburg – to promote the legendary tenor’s tour that year. It is a double-sided picture disc, and also plays like a normal 33 1/3 LP.

Included were four tracks, all arranged by Henry Mancini. The contents are as follows:

Side 1

Mamma (Bixio-Cherubini)

Parlami d’amore, Mariu (Bixio-Neri-Sievier)

Side 2

Rondine al nido (De Crescenzo-Sica)

La mia canzone al vento (Bixio-Cherubini)

These performances were made with Henry Mancini conducting an eponymously named orchestra, crack studio musicians, recordings made in 1984.

If this disc was originally issued with a jacket, it is lost, but I suspect it was packaged in a clear polysleeve as provided here, the better to showcase Pavarotti and this promo LP.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the polysleeve is EXCELLENT. It shows a bit of aging and discoloration, but that is all. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners’ markings, or other defects, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive – overall, an excellent collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Although the surfaces are not absolutely silent, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. Those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are kindly advised to look elsewhere. Overall, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
