Acquired directly from the Alan and Marilyn Bergman Estate in Los Angeles. These items were held in the private library of the Oscar-winning lyricists and document the definitive vocal breakthrough of their 1968 Academy Award-winning song, "The Windmills of Your Mind." While Grady Tate was already a first-call drummer for legends like Quincy Jones and Stan Getz, it was the Bergmans' lyrics that helped catapult him into the spotlight as a world-class baritone. Tate became a frequent and favored interpreter of their work; beyond "Windmills," he famously recorded other Bergman standards like "Where Do You Start?" and "A Little At A Time". This collection represents the very beginning of that lifelong professional kinship, starting with the 1968 sessions for his debut vocal album on Skye Records. This historic recording features a "Who's Who" of jazz giants, including Herbie Hancock on organ and Bernie Purdie on drums, creating a sophisticated backdrop for Tate's inaugural performance of the Bergmans' masterpiece. - Handwritten Advance 45: A white-label advance pressing of "Windmills of Your Mind." This is an industry-only disc sent directly to the Bergmans for their review prior to the commercial release.
- Stereo/Mono Promo: An original Skye 455 promotional single. This unique version features Mono on one side and Stereo on the other, designed specifically for late-1960s radio broadcast.
- 1968 Skye LP (SK-4D): An original first pressing of the Windmills of My Mind album stamped "For Demonstration Only" on the back.
