This beautiful and very rare LP – a superb collector’s copy – from Deutsche Grammophon (427 353-1, German pressing, white circle label, DDD stereo, insert included) features Leonard Bernstein’s moving performance of Mozart’s Requiem K. 626, the only recording of this work by the great conductor. It was made in the rich acoustics of the Klosterpfarrkirche, Diessen (Ammersee) in July 1988, and was issued the folllowing year, right near the very end of the LP era.

Joining Bernstein and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra on this momentous occasion were:

Included is a full-size, 4-page booklet with extensive notes on the music in German (by Dietmar Holland), French (by Marie-Pierre Lassus),in English (by  Peter Branscombe), and in Italian (by Ernesto Napolitano). The original vocal texts are included herein as well, along with translations in German, English, and French.

CONDITION:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really, there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, owners' markings, or other defects and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, this is a truly fine collector's copy.

The condition of the full-size, 4-page booklet is near-MINT. There is a small crease to the upper-right corner, but that is all – a fine copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Although surfaces are not absolutely silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT), really this is a very fine copy and playback is truly superb. However, if you must have absolutely perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a very fine collector's copy.
