Description
BERT JANSCH Jack Orion (1966 UK 8-track Transatlantic LP matte finish laminated picture sleeve. This was Bert's third album , the one that Jimmy Page was closly listening to....the first track sounds not unlike Zeppelins Bron-Y-Aur Stomp and Black Water Side is bascically Misty Mountain Hop. Weighing in at a thick 166 grams
This is the ultra scarce first pressing on Transatlantic's early logo design on the first issue textured labels. The disc is shiny but shows surface, occasional lines, marks etc on a very thick pressing. Inner sleeve is water marked but ok. Outer fragile sleeve has lasted well, with usual matt laminate lifting here and there, some edge wear etc vg/vg.
AUDIO TEST FULL TREBLE! Side one. baring in mind the delicate acoustic subtleties this third release of Jansch contains there is only a smattering of background here and there. Noticeable in between tracks and on quieter passages but not a particular distraction to its crisp groove tones.there are two surface lines,fine scratches across the two first tracks of each side which don't get in the path of the music played particularly, worth noting all the same.Very Good to Ex- to be fair, no nasty skips or bad ticks. Glossy pressing with nearly 50 year's worth of reasonable play wear. The same can be said for side two, Polly track is quiet to Nm audibly to my ears and the full treble test I have unnecessarily put this long player through. Overall audio is pleasing and not horrible to the speakers. Harder and harder to locate this release from the master of the acoustic guitar.
It is plainly clear that Led Zeppelin took freely from Bert's album here to the point of replicating certain songs disguised as new songs....influenced...hmmmm
. There are two other copies on auction on BIN on ebay from around £250 due to the relevance and influence this album garners in rock history terms.
To find a first pressing with correct early Transatlantic logo has been near impossible for a long time...
This auction comes with no reserve and the starting price is very low in light of this much sought Jansch classic. On many lists for a true first edition from almost 50 years ago...
