Description
Offered is a clean, lightly used copy of the first pressing of the Chantilly Lace LP
by J. P. Richardson, known as the Big Bopper. This original, black-label Mercury
pressing, MG 20402 (mono), is the only LP produced in Richardson's own lifetime,
which ended in the same year, in the plane crash that also took the lives of Buddy Holly
and 17-year-old rock genius Ritchie Havens. The record is shiny and fresh-looking and
plays beautifully, but very close inspection shows some light spindle marks and a fair
number of very light scratches, which are superficial enough not to cause surface noise
that I can detect. The famous and outrageous cover is undamaged, with a bright
unfaded front, though it has slightly bumped corners and a few short lines of wrinkling
in the left edge of the cover photo, and there are some very small red marks on the
upper right corner that may be the remains of an old price mark. The cover's
reverse is slightly yellowed and seems a little faded; there is a lightly written ballpoint
pen signature of perhaps a former owner near the top. Please do not hesitate to
write if you wish for other information about this scarce and very collectible 1959
record. No reserve, buyer pays shipping, satisfaction guaranteed. Please note that
I ship to United States addresses only.
