Description
Bill Evans Trio – Waltz for Debby (Riverside RLP 9399) – TRUE 1st Pressing – NM- Vinyl – Shrink
An exceptional and increasingly elusive original pressing of one of the most celebrated live jazz albums ever recorded. This is a confirmed true first pressing of Waltz for Debby — RLP 12-9399 etched in the deadwax (A and B sides).
Details:
Label: Riverside Records – RLP 9399 (Original Deep Groove, Blue Label)
Matrix/Deadwax: RLP 12-9399A / RLP 12-9399B (etched) – definitive first pressing indicators.
Format: 12” LP, Mono
Condition: Vinyl is E - NM- with only the most minimal signs of handling — played sparingly and lovingly preserved. Shrink wrap is still present, with some minor rubs and markings on the shrink itself, not affecting the jacket underneath. A careful cleaning could improve the outer presentation even further.
Playback: Upon play-test (by bidder request), the LP sounds phenomenal — rich, dynamic, and deeply musical, exactly as you hope for from an early Riverside pressing.
Rarity: Clean, true first pressings of Waltz for Debby have become extremely scarce — most surviving copies have significant wear. This example represents an outstanding opportunity for the serious collector.
Notes: This is not just a must-have for jazz collectors — it’s one of the crown jewels of the genre, a timeless portrait of the Bill Evans Trio at their peak. A museum-quality recording that captures the true spirit of Village Vanguard era New York.
Pricing: Reflective of condition, pressing, and rarity compared to the few high-end sales recorded on Discogs and private dealer networks.
Questions welcome — additional photos, matrix stamp close-ups, or play-grade snippets available upon request.
