OK, I admit, I know absolutely NOTHING about grading old vintage album covers or records. However, I went through other listings and photos of various records for sale on Ebay to get an idea of what to look for to inform any potential buyers and to get a general idea about what I needed to say about this particular record and cover.
So here it goes…..
The record has not been cleaned on a VPI record cleaning machine, whatever that is……
The cover looks very nice to me. Truthfully, it looks almost “new” to me, and if I were buying this record in a record store, I would have no idea by looking at the front of the cover that it was “pre-owned”. (If it were not for the fact that in the upper right hand corner, Gramps wrote his name (W. EVANS) in very small, neat letters.) I did spot a couple of what I call “flea bites” on the back of the cover. (See photos and/or scans) Based on what I have read elsewhere on Ebay, I guess I would have to say it has “very light wear”.
Vinyl looks pretty good too. I have NO IDEA what the sound quality is, as I don’t own a record player, and know no one who does. There is no “graying” color to the record. It has no warping at all. There are some fine scuffs/scratches and wear to the record, but I see no “deep gouges”. He did put his initials/name on the center paper portion of the record and a small “sticker” on one side (don’t know what that was for - See photos)
I would have to assume that this is still quite playable.
Gramps stored all his records in a specially made record filing box that had its own protective materials inside it for the records. The record was in that filing box. I then found the box where he kept the covers, They were each (or at least mostly) inside special sized “plastic” sleeves. I was able to match up every records to the cover it came in. (I had a blast!)
Just so you know, Gramps apparently did not keep ANY of the paper sleeves the record(s) went in inside the covers…. So I don’t have that!
Well, that’s it. I hope someone want this record.
