Description

We are starting to sell off parts of a large collection of records, of virtually all genres.

Please send any wants lists you have, we have more records than we can easily list, and we offer the same guarantees on all our records

Today, we shall mostly be selling UK psych, folk ( mostly acid folk ), beat and progressive - some great Beatles and Stones items included. Please look out for our auctions, they will appear very regularly.

Up for sale now we have a copy of Bill Plummer and the Cosmic Brotherhood US original on Impulse AS9164 from 1968. It is a Stereo record in a Stereo stickered, Mono sleeve. This is a seriously weird LP. Something in here for everyone – well, everyone who’s a bit twisted. The lead track, ‘Journey to the East’ has Bill narrating his spiritual journey, so to speak, over a fairly laid back jazzy, sitar backing, then all three sitarists (yes, three) go off on one, with Tom Scott throwing some echoed sax over their jam session, before they all calm down again and Bill rambles on a bit more. This would be a top club tune, really spaced out. Their version of ‘The Look of Love’ is a weird cheesy take on the song, with harpsicord, flute and sitar all over it. Great combination. There is a great version of the David Crosby song Lady Friend, 2 more traditional jazz tracks, one with no sitar and piano and guitar solos, one with added sitar, and 2 what I can only describe as freeform avant sitar jazz tracks, with bowed upright bass and tons of traditional instrumentation, ie, and I quote, ‘Sarode, Tambura Tabla, Transceleste, Duo Vigong, American Tree Bells, Boo Bams (surely they’re making this up), Surrogate Vithara and (sic) Which Stand.’ Great record – but it is seriously strange. And the cover is worth framing. Look at Bill in his suit and tie, barefoot, in traditional Sitar-playing pose in front of that mini Taj Mahal thing. Anyway, enough of this….

Condition .

This record is a good EX+, a lot of sellers would call it M-. There are NO spindle marks on the labels, and barely a sign of a hairline, let alone scratches or scuffs. I have played it through and only hear the very occasional crackle. And this could well be cured with a record cleaning machine – which I unfortunately don’t have. This record has been rarely played.

The thick gatefold sleeve is EX, with just slight lamination lift near the spine. The inner sides have slight markings where, I guess at some time during extended storage, the ink from the pictures and writing has made slight marks on the opposite sides. There is slight rubbing on the corners, but no splits or tears or sticker marks. However, again probably due to the way it was stored, the sleeve is slightly askew, in that the front is longer than the back. It must have been stored slightly twisted, and as the sleeve has aged and become more solid it has locked this way. However, I am being hyper-critical. All in all it is a beautiful copy of this very rare and sought after record.
