Billy- s/t (The Gospelites Feature Their Bass Singer, Billy McKnight), released by Gospelite Records (GS-125) in Stereo out of Dobbins, CA.
*First of all, this sound clip has not been altered in any way. Similarly, the producers of this album did not alter any speeds in making this LP. This insanely low voice is the true voice of the one-and-only, 21 year-old Billy McKnight. Listen to the soundclip to get floored by the power of Billy. To my knowledge, the "Billy" LP is only known to myself and a handful of my friends, and I've never seen another copy of this anywhere. This record is so damn wonderfully weird that it seriously needs to be re-issued. I'm not kidding, and I consider this to be my absolute favorite "weird" records. My personal favorite tune here is Billy's bizarre version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water". Here he takes a tune known for its incredibly high-pitched vocals and turns it completely around, to a transcendental level of groanin', gut-wreching, almost-scary bass singing! "Get Together" and "Try a Little Kindness" is a very bizarre Christian appropriation of hippiedom, both musically & lyrically, strictly done Billy-style. The born-again theology prevalent here, mixed with Billy's one-of-a-kind voice, gives this record a very apocalyptic, yet comical, feel throughout its duration. "Glory Train", "Revive Us Again" and "King Jesus" showcase the great country pickin' of the Gospelites, which is a nice fit to Billy's vocals. This was produced in the small foothill town of Dobbins, just south of the boomtown-turned-Christian city of Marysville, CA. From the back liners (see photo): "If you like bass singing, we recommend this album. If you like low, low bass singing, this will be one of your favorites...Happy listening!" This record is a serious treasure in my book, and if you know what's good for you and your record collection, you're already salivating over the superior sounds of Billy!*
The thick Vinyl is visually graded in VG- condition. When looked at under a very bright light, the record shows a very rich luster and one very minor surface scratch. This will play with an incredibly full, rich sound, but some light pops will be heard. Please listen to the sound clip to get a very accurate idea of the condition.
The Cover is still in its original shrink and is graded in VG+ condition, just showing some incredibly minor edge wear.
Shipping is calculated by ebay at the actual cost for you, the consumer. I don't charge any extra fees for material or handling.
For combined shipping, please add $1 for each additional LP you purchase. If you buy many records from me, I can ship them all together in one box, and charge you the actual cost I pay at the post office. International customers, please keep in mind that once you reach 4 pounds (roughly 4 LPs+), 1st Class International is no longer a shipping option, and you must ship Priority or Express.
Insurance is your option as a buyer. International customers, please keep in mind that you can only insure your item if you ship Express, which can be very expensive. Please contact me if you would prefer this option.
