Bix Beiderbecke 78 RPM Columbia Record Album -- Excellent Condition

This is a remarkable well preserves album of four 78 rpm records.This album is right out of a Greensboro, North Carolina AM radio station library and was only made available when the broadcaster switched over the vinyl in the late 1940’s or early 1950’s. The records are in excellent condition.None has been played in 60 years or longer and then only when they handled by a professional on the best equipment for broadcasting. I rate all of the records in the set as Very Good ++. See my rating scale below.

 At the end of WWII, record companies swung back into full production. Many like Columbia found the quickest way back into the market was through reissuing classics from years gone by. That's the case with this great album collection of Bix Biederbece with Frankie Trumbauer and his orchestra. The original records were made in 1929. They are issued here through the best technology available.

Each record has retained the glossy patina from the manufacturer. None is cracked or chipped, and it is very hard to find any superficial scratches, the kind created by a stylus dragging across the surface. Most records have no scratches at all. Light superficial mildew from decades in storage shows up randomly on the records, something easily remedied by cleaning with the appropriate product. I rate them all VG++ or better. The album cover shows its age, especially in the spine. See the photo. The interior sleeves, however, are still in almost new condition. The only blemish on the record labels is the index number that was assigned by the radio station in their programming. It appears in white ink on the  label.

For optimal results, clean each record before playing and make certain that your turntable is equipped with a 3 mil stylus which is boarder than the 1 mil stylus used on vinyl records. Also, make sure your stylus pressure and tracking are set as specified by your turntable manual. 78 RPM records are much more sensitive to drag pressure on the stylus. More surface noise results.

GRADING 

Grading is based on the following criteria:

·  Sealed Mint - brand new as if right from the store· 

Near Mint - like new or near new with only one or two small insignificant defects, a 9 or better on a 1-10 scale

·  VG++ - still a very nice record with all or nearly all of its original gloss but may have a few more light surface marks, hairlines, needle tracks or the like which should not materially effect play  An 8 on a scale of 1 to 10.

·  VG+ - a nice, but used record that may have a series of light scuffs or scratches. It probably plays with a few tics, but has no serious problems  A 6 or 7 on a scale of 1 to 10

·  VG - a well-used record that still should sound OK when played, but may have moderate surface noise, pops, etc  A 4 to 6 on a scale of 1 to 10.

·  Good - not actually good at all but probably will play through but with very noticeable  surface noise, pops, crackles, etc. Still, will have no cracks, chips or the like  Less than any of the foregoing.
