Description
For your consideration:
Okeh 40923, containing At The Jazz Band Ball (A-8) and The Jazz Me Blues (B-2), recorded by Bix Beiderbecke and His Gang on October 5, 1927.
First, the bad news: as is quite evident, the label on the Jazz Me Blues side has faded considerably and/or been scoured. Secondly, at the eleven o'clock position on the Jazz Band Ball side and the one o'clock position on the Jazz Me Blues side, there are three or four indentations, into the shellac. I played the disc on my BSR record player, and these are only audible on the Jazz Band Ball side before the music starts. They cannot be heard once the song commences, and are not audible on the Jazz Me Blues side. Smudges in pictures, at least on the disc (not the labels) are from the scanner.
The good news: despite the indentations and the label, I would rate the audio quality of these sides as VG+ at the very least, and lean more so towards E-/E. There is a minimal amount of surface noise inherent to these records, but that excellent Okeh surface and sound is very much in evidence, and these songs play quite clearly. The disc itself, otherwise, has very few scuffs, and presents a nice, clean surface, minus the aforementioned indentations. Yours to enjoy!
I have collected 78's for over twenty years, and am a Beiderbecke enthusiast, so if you have any questions, please ask!
Thank you!
