Description
Bizet: Carmen (Complete). Troyanos, Domingo, Te Kanawa and Van Dam Perform, Sir George Solti Conducts. MFSL 3-530 Half-Speed Mastered Limited Issue Box Set with 3 LPs on JVC Vinyl. Discs are NM, Box Cover is VG with some slight peeling of the back cover away from the backing, and some (water?) spots.
I have been collecting LPs for about 10 years. Almost all of which was Classical, Opera, Showtunes. Then about 5 years ago, I began to sell off most of the 'cheap' vinyl, the stuff that isn't worth much, and has no collectibility. Then, I started buying expensive, superb sounding 'Audiophile' collectible vinyl. Sometimes, I paid too much just to have that rare item. Sometimes, I paid too much just because I wanted something different. Sometimes, I got an incredible deal because the seller didn't know what I would have paid for the LP. :-)
All LPs have their own 2 or 3 mil plastic sleeve for protection. Some Selections sell for more than $100 by themselves.
My preference in the last few years has been to buy a lot of Japanese pressings. My favorite label to collect is the Toshiba 'Pro Use' Lps, which are going for ever higher prices here on Ebay. And they are worth it. But I also like JVC/RVC pressings, and a few others. I like the Denon Digital pressings because they sound nice and people don't want a lot of money for them, and also they tend to be in good condition.
My grading---
In recent years I have become by far the strictest grader I know. If you look below, you will see that I don't have a 'Mint' rating. I believe in pessimistic grading, where anybody else looking at the LP would grade it higher than I do. So anything NM to NM+ will probably be indistinguishable from new. I have bought untold numbers of LP's off of people on ebay, only to find that they graded too highly. I almost always turn around and sell those Lps (at a loss, and with proper grading) and try to find more pristine versions. In the last year I have begun to follow other hobbies, so I have not added a lot of new vinyl.
What remains is a modest collection of nearly perfect quality LPs, with a broad range of classical and a small range of opera, any one of which is an excellent sonic experience, and will please the listener.
