Description
This is a very nice copy of Classic Records 180g pressing of Jean Morel’s recording of Bizet’s “L’Arlesienne Suites 1 &2” and Chabrier’s “Espana Rapsodie” and “March Joyeuse” on five single-sided 45 RPM records with the Royal Opera House Orchestra, Covent Garden. The 45 RPM set is a complete recording LSC-2327. When I first bought this new, the records were cleaned with a VPI record cleaner and treated with LAST record preservative. More recently it was recleaned with Audio Intelligent Fluids on a VPI cleaner and on an Audio Desk ultra sonic record cleaner. It has also been demagnetized with a Furutech DeMag. Side 1, “Espana”, plays mostly quietly and I only noticed 3-4 light ticks over the side. There is a slight warp along the edge which does not cause a tracking problem with my 12” VPI JMW with a Lyra Kleos cartridge when played without the periphery clamp but could cause problems with other arms and cartridges. The remaining 4 records have no warp problems. Side 2 has some occasional light ticks throughout the side but is mostly quiet. Side 3 has 2 superficial diagonal “scratches” and a group of light marks across the record. The diagonal “scratches” do not sound as a regular periodic tick so they do not appear to affect the sound. Band 1 of side 3 has 2 spots with about 1 second low-level surface noise and 6 other occasional faint ticks. but is otherwise quiet. Band 2 of side 3 has 2 light ticks and is otherwise quiet. Side 4 has some light surface noise at the beginning of the side for the first 30 seconds or so but does not cover the music. Side 4 seems to have several pressing (?) marks on the vinyl near the beginning of the side and another oval mark in the middle of band 1. There are some occasional light ticks after that but it is mostly very quiet. Side 5 has some occasional low-level surface noise near the beginning during the first few minutes but no other noticeable surface noise after that. I have only played the records a few times on various VPI tables I have owned (HW-19 MKIV, TNT 3.5, and Classic 4) using either Lyra or Benz Mico Ruby cartridges. The sound is naturally open and detailed. The covers for the first two records are the original glossy jackets that Classic used for their original 180g 33 RPM issue. The remaining 3 records have a plain white jacket with a sticker. All jackets are the ones originally issued by Classic Records. There no seam splits, bends or tears. Only side A of each LP is pressed. Side B is blank. Multiple records can be combined in an order to save shipping costs.
