Description
Bizet - Carmen Fantasie, Sarasate - Zigeunerweisen, Saint-Saens - Havanaise, Intro & Rondo. R. Ricci - violin, P. Gamba cond. London Sym. Orch. Decca SXL-2197, ED1 ("Original Recording" w/groove), UK pressing, scallop-edge, flap jacket.
Condition: Disc: Appears NM- with only a few faint hairline marks. A few spindle trails on side 1, none on side 2. I've also carefully auditioned this disc. It plays without any scratches except a spot near the end of side 1 where soft ticks may be heard in the right channel for about 30 sec. These are quite soft and might be missed on a casual listen. There is some occasional light random noise in the background, as is typical of vintage vinyl. Sound is clear and undistorted through to the end of the sides. Jacket: VG++/NM-, very nice with no writing or other detractions, no significant edge wear or soiling.
This is an enjoyable copy to listen to from beginning to end. It also probably has the best sound Decca ever gave Ricci. In addition to this item, please see my other early SXLs this week.
About Grading: My grading is based primarily on a careful visual inspection. If I see any marks, I will check them by playing and will tell you both about the marks and what I heard. Occasionally, I will audition a record all the way through if rare, and will again tell you if I do this and what I heard. It is unfortunate that time does not allow me to listen to everything but I try to apply generally used grading standards conservatively.
