Description
The first True Heavy Metal Album!
A rare collectors item, the very first pressing of the first Black Sabbath self titled album. Released by Vertigo in Friday 13th February 1970. Matrix : VO6 1Y 1 420 / VO6 2Y 1 420.
This press is complete with the earliest 1Y1/2Y1 matrix, the earliest large swirl Vertigo label and matt gatefold sleeve. It has the three criteria that show it to be from the first press - Ozzy is spelled 'OSSIE' , the credits are in capitals, and it has the typo 'Copyright subsists in all stereo recordings' .
I'm not a collector or an expert but i would say it is in good condition, certainly worth something to someone out there! The vinyl itself looks ok, there are some feint marks and one scratch on side B that may effect the sound but i can't tell. My record player is now retired in the attic! (See the last pic which kind of shows the scratch.) It's in need of a clean, and the label has a few musty spots when closely inspected. The inner sleeve is yellowed and has a small surname written on it in biro - as has the label on side B.
The gatefold sleeve is in good condition considering it's age, but it is obviously worn around the edges. The spine has a few frays and there is a nick and a dent on the front bottom right corner. I think its in pretty good shape considering it is 42 years old and has been in the hands of real Sabbath fans for all those years, played and appreciated for what it is! Minor cosmetic flaws aside this is piece of Music History and is credited with pioneering the 'Heavy Metal' Genre.
