Ok, so please READ THE DESCRIPTION IN FULL, FIRST.
This is the very 1st pressing of Paranoid on the UK Vertigo label. Matrix 1/1. Also please note how the Vertigo large-swirl takes up much of the northern sector on the labels - this is the very 1st issue design. The vinyl comes housed in an original gatefold cover with the BIG BEAR credit showing in the interior - this is indicative of very earliest 1st issue. Also included is an original Vertigo inner sleeve from the time. So, 100% genuine and 100% complete.
Vinyl (G+) Ok, so let's be frank here - this LP has seen significant use over the years. Both sides are peppered with many marks, but most appear to be non-feelable..There's nothing really heavy or nasty that causes a skip. A thorough testing from beginning to end reveals a GOOD+ level of playback. Lets break this down so the buyer can understand this rating...It plays through fine, but there will be some sort of crackle audible to a greater or lesser extent in all sections. On a folk record it's the sort of level that would render the audio completely unpalatable. As it's Sabbath and most of the LP is heavy hitting riffing - it just about gets away with it. But be under absolutely no illusion - this is nowhere even remotely close to being a clean record. If it weren't the very 1st press, and Paranoid, it's unlikely it would have been listed. But setting that aside...it does actually play through fine and is very enjoyable. Most of the crackle and pop is liveable...i.e. it doesn't tend to invade the audio to an extent where you feel you just can't listen..But it is audible and noticeable. On the track 'Caravan' , however, it tips over into being invasive...and it actually sounds like you're listening to the track sat around a camp fire! In a weird sort of way it actually adds to the ambience of the track! So, weigh it up in the round..I'm being 100% open about the condition of the item..please bear all of the description in mind before purchasing.
Cover (Vg) In very decent condition, and I can assure you, many 1st issues don't look even half this good. The front and rear are relatively clean and are not exhibiting the heavy wear or creasing you often find. The interior is very nice apart from a couple of big black splodges over on the right panel. Edge wear is moderate. It's not worn-through anywhere, but don't expect to be able to make out any of the text on the spine clearly. Overall the cover still retains excellent rigidity.
