Description
For sale is a copy of Black Sabbath’s second studio album, Paranoid.
This is an original UK 1st Pressing produced in 1971 which features the much sort-after Vertigo swirl labels and inner sleeve.
Paranoid is a culturally significant album and a must-have addition to any serious record collection.
In 2017 Rolling Stone magazine declared that it was the best heavy metal album of all time!
Although millions of copies have been sold globally over the years only the first few thousand were sold on the Vertigo Swirl label.
Many vinyl records are mis-sold on eBay. There are several details which identify this copy as a true 1st pressing. They are:
· Front-and-rear laminated gatefold sleeve with “VO PRICE CODE” printed in red on the rear
· 6360011 catalogue number
· Matrix numbers: 1Y//1 420 (side 1) and 2Y//1 420
In particular, this is the 3rd variant of the album sold which has:
- No “Management” credit on the centrefold of the sleeve
- No Vertigo credit below the spindle hole on side 2 of the label
- “Produced by Roger Brain for Tony Hall Enterprises” written over 2 lines on the label.
- “Hand of Doom” and “Rat Salad” are separated into two separate tracks on side 2 of the album

I use the Goldmine standard as a reference for grading.
Vinyl: Very Good
Visually the record looks great.
Both sides of the vinyl surface retain the original gloss sheen.
There are several marks to both sides and one or two small sections (less than 1 full turn) of visible groove wear.
The labels are bright and clean with minimal spindle wear.
The audio on both sides is as lively as you would hope.
There is the odd pop and hiss but nothing that overtly distracts the ear from the music.
There is great channel separation, clear vocals and punchy basslines.
Sleeve: Very Good +
The iconic sleeve still looks fantastic.
The front and rear retain their original vibrant colours and display just a couple of subtle laminate ripples.
The centrefold is very clean with tarnished only by a 2cm section of tape residue.
The corners are strong, and the spine and edges are distinct.
Inner Sleeve: Excellent
The original tracing paper lined swirl inner sleeve is in fantastic condition.
There is no visible discolouration and no tears, rips or creasing at all.
Also included in the sale is an audiophile quality inner sleeve which provides the best possible protection for the record.
This is a fantastic example of a rare and much sought-after album. A must have addition to the record collection of any music fan.
The album is housed within a premium quality polythene outer sleeve. The vinyl is separate to the sleeve.
The album will be sent within a padded vinyl record mailer.
