If you popped in at Harlequin Records in Basingstoke, England on Friday the 13th in 1970, you would have had the opportunity to exchange a couple of pounds for the record that is up for auction. This is a first pressing of Black Sabbath's self-titled debut record, in its original first pressing cover. It does not have the original inner sleeve. The bottom third of the cover exhibits a slight waviness to it. There aren't any seam splits on the cover, but the bottom is worn. This record saw some action in its day! I grade it as VG. The disk shows the same level of wear; a lot of time on the turntable but loved and cared for. I grade the disk as VG also. But, the pictures tell the story better than my words.
A few things to note about this collectible goody from the Sabs:
Side B of the disk shows "A PHILIPS RECORD PRODUCT" under the word "VERITGO", which was quickly removed as Philips spun Vertigo off into its own, independent company.
The copyright notice in the gatefold of this cover is erroneous (stating "Copyright subsists in all Stereo recordings...", and was therefore quickly pulled from shop shelves and replaced with covers that had the correct copyright verbiage. A close up picture of this notice is provided with this listing.
Band members and production credits are in all capital letters.
Ozzy Osbourne's name is misspelled as "Ossie".
The cover has a slight texture feel to it, rather than smooth.
