Black Sabbath – Master Of Reality - Vertigo Records - Original Swirl Label Vinyl LP with Box Cover 

"Master of Reality" was originally released in 1971.                

Vertigo Records release no:6360 050. Stereo.

This is an original UK Vertigo Records Swirl label release. 

The cover is the original embossed and laminated box cover. The box is a little flat as many are it also has some creases but is still in good condition for it's age. There is some laminate bubbling. Please see the pictures.

For those who are interested in pressing versions the matrix numbers are  1Y1 2Y1. 

MATRICES: Information from the web.
A common misconception is that a 1Y//1 2Y//1 matrix indicates a first pressing. The majority of Vertigo swirls didn't sell very well first time round! They were therefore quickly deleted. Some were repressed the year after initial issue, and since the mothers/stampers had hardly been used it was simply decided to use them again without going to further expense. So you will find 2nd issue swirls with the 1Y1 2Y1 matrix. Conversely, some 1st pressings feature a 1Y2 matrix - possibly unhappy with the quality of the initial stamper a second one was made...a great example of this on a different label is Led Zeppelin III on Atlantic red/plum; Jimmy Page reviewed 4 test pressings of the album and rejected them all until the 5th one; so Led Zepp III 1st press features A5/B5 matrices....

Version 3 label design, Black Sabbath's "Master Of Reality" is unique in UK pressings as being the only black label design.

There is a fair amount of crackle on some tracks.

Side A has 2 or 3 scratches and 2 to 3 scruff marks if you look carefully.

Side B has 1 obvious scratch/scruff accross the last two tracks but this doesn't affect the sound.

I would class the sound as VG minus. It still plays very well with no clicks or jumps. 

Some versions of this release had a poster, there is no poster with this copy.

The record is housed in the original Swirl Vertigo sleeve. 

The Record Grading

I have classed this using the Record Collector Grading as "Very Good minus" with some quieter tracks as "Good"

This record is not brand new or in mint condition so if that is what you are after then to avoid any disappointment please refrain from bidding if you prefer mint condition.   

The reason for the grading. 

The LP is quite crackly on some tracks which is why I have graded this with a VG minus. The nature of the music being heavy metal means that it is still a good listen and you only hear normal crackles however it does sound crackly between some tracks and in the quieter songs.

I use the Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide as below.

2.  MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be     Mint.

3.  EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.

4.  VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

5.  GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.

6.  FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.

7.  POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

8.  BAD The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
