Description: B and O Blues No. 2 / Savannah Mama by Blind Willie McTell on Vocalion Records 02568. Date:   Condition: The record is about E- on side A (B&O Blues) and about V+ on Side B (Savannah Mama). (The scans of the matrix # region may make it look a bit better than it is.) There is still a bit of gloss in the grooves but much is gone. There are NO scratches, skips, needle drops, or needle drags. Just evidence of having been played many times but fairly well cared for. There is quite a bit of surface hiss which is much more evident on Savannah Mama. The hiss diminishes somewhat near the end of that song. B&O plays much better.

You can evaluate the playing through the links below which give you a portion of the song. The songs were recorded using a reequalizer set to "FLAT" and a standard size 78 RPM stylus. I have not manipulated the file in any way other than convert it to mp3 files. I used the least amount of compression possible so that very little would be lost in the compression.

On May-09-07 at 15:43:01 PDT, seller added the following information:

I have discovered that the record actually sounds better than the sound files I originally posted. I use the turntable to record 45 RPM & 78 RPM and I forgot to change the stylus pressure. I was recording the 78 and the needle wasn't making good contact with the groove. I have rerecorded the files and have replaced the original ones. In particular, Savannah Mama plays better--although you can hear some evidence of distortion on the dynamic highs. I also neglected to mention 3 soft pops that you will hear about 50 seconds into the recording. eMail me if you want to hear longer clips of the music.
