Here is another blues 78rpm record that I am listing this week. All records were played on a Gemini 6000 PDT turntable with a Stanton M78S pickup, a Vector Research VR-3000 amplifier/receiver, and early EPI-100 speakers.
Description: This record is with Willie Walker, on Columbia 14578-D. Sides are: A. South Carolina Rag, & B. Dupree Blues.
Condition: Both sides are in Excellent E- condition visually and correspondingly beautiful sound. Side A (Carolina Rag) in particular has extremely quiet surfaces and plays about as well as any record of this period could. The music too is stunningly well-recorded with breathtaking body and detail. "Dupree Blues" has one long, light scratch and one short deeper scratch, plus one extremely light 1/4" lamination line. None of it matters much because none of it sounds. Well, maybe Dupree has ever slightly more surface noise than "Rag," but not much more, and "Rag" is very quiet. Both sides are quiet and the music is prominently "present." A wonderful disk for the right collector. Record plays flat, there are no skips or jumps nor other defects or distractions not listed.
My grading is based on the following scale: P, V, or E. +/- and occasionally ++/-- P = unplayable, E = almost like new. I've sold & shipped well over 100 78rpm records on ebay over the years without a single complaint about condition or satisfaction.

I've packed and shipped well over 100 78rpm records in the dozen or so years I've been selling on ebay. Mostly classical records, which is my specialty, many of them quite valuable. I've shipped within the U.S. and around the world. I've also bought some records over the years, both from dealers and from ebayers. From dealers I learned what proper packing means. From non-dealer ebay sellers I learned what IMPROPER packing means.
When I pack records I bind them snugly between multiple squares of stiff cardboard taped securely together so that nothing shifts around inside. I also put them in paper or cardboard sleeves and/or put a square of paper towel between each record. I do NOT put bubble wrap between records because that is asking for breakage. Bubble wrap goes on the OUTSIDE of the bound record stack, around and around. Then all of that surrounded by styrofoam peanuts.
It is also important to use a big enough box, in my opinion, so that the record(s) will be nested safely in the middle with lot of cushion all around. For a very valuable disk I would recommend double-boxing which would afford an extra measure of protection. International buyers might not want double-boxing due to the extra bulk, weight, and thus cost of the package. The buyer will decide.
Insurance is also for each buyer to decide. Of course the more valuable a record is, the more sense it makes to buy insurance for it, but I pack so that a buyer will NEVER have to try collecting on insurance. A broken record means failure, disappointment, hassle, regret. I've never had a broken record yet and I intend to keep it that way! Hopefully this message will help reassure buyers how seriously I take the issue of packing 78rpm records for safe shipment.
I will consult each winning bidder on which shipping service they would like me to use, plus whatever concerns they might have. On Dec-07-12 at 11:03:29 PST, seller added the following information: In response to an inquiry, I've gone back and had a very close look at the lamination line mentioned in my description. It is slightly longer than I first remembered, not quite half an inch, on the Dupree side. It goes from the edge to the grooves, and then a bit less than that far again into the grooves. It is very thin and doesn't sound on playback at all. The reason it's there is because of a soft edge bump on the record that I didn't even notice on initial inspection. There is also an extremely fine 1/4" lam line on other side side (south carolina) caused by the same edge bump but not in line with the other. They are unconnected, about a 1/4" apart along the edge.
I took about an hour taking close-up pictures and have now added the two which best show the lines to my listing. It wasn't easy to get them to show at all. I will be notifying anyone who has already bid, about the additional info. When viewing the new pictures, the line just below the bright light is on S. Carolina. The line visible in the low sideways angle is on Dupree. I apologize for the initial oversight.
