Blues 78 San Antonio piano and vocal by Andy Boy on Buff Bluebird

I’ve been collecting records for more years that I’d care to remember and inevitably there comes a time to sell or trade a few duplicates and there are plenty more to come once this listing has ended, including some even rarer blues 78's and some superb condition British issue 78 blues rarities on the Vogue and London labels.

Andy Boy, 2 fantastic sides from one of the best Texas piano players recorded in San Antonio in 1937 and considered by many to be his best, this copy of House Raid Blues and Church Street Blues on Bluebird 6858 is in E- condition, even though the record has a pressing fault that looks as if it should affect play, it doesn't on my system

All records are play graded on my Technics SL 1200, modified to play 78’s fitted with a Jelco arm, Nagaoka cartridge with a 3 mil 78 stylus played in mono through a Quad amp and speakers with no filtering - generally quite an unforgiving system, so grading to the standard at the end of this listing is guaranteed.

Although I’ve not yet managed to figure out how to imbed them into the listing, if you’re interested I can send you a MP3 clip of the actual record, so that you can judge for yourself.

78’s are not only fragile, they’re precious too and there’s nothing worse than a record arriving damaged because of poor packaging, so I’ll make sure that anything I send off will be well packed in sturdy boxes,surrounded by loads of polystyrene peanuts and / or bubble wrap. This will mean that P&P costs will be more than eBay’s quoted charges. If your in the UKthis will be around £5:00, but if you are bidding from overseas, please be aware that I will not calculate the costs in advance and you will have you will have to accept the postage costs that will be calculated once I have taken the package to the Post Office.

For certain overseas countries – Italy and Russia,I will also have to send the parcel by registered or tracked post, which will cost even more, so please make sure that you are prepared to pay these charges in advance. I’ll happily combine winnings or if you’d prefer it you can pick them up at a mutually convenient time and place, from the Heathrow, Newport, South Wales or the London area. ?

My 78 Grading scale is based on the VJM system.

N As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed)

N- Nearly Mint, but has been played No visible signs of wear or damage

E+ Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets

E Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few scuffs and scratches

E- Still shiny but without the lustre of a new record, few light scratches

V+ An average looking 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion and surface noise not overly pronounced

V Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive

V- Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy greying in loud passages. Music remains loud inmost passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level

G+ Grey throughout but still serviceable Music begins to sound muffled Heavy scratches

G Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise

G- Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive

F Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable
