Only Vertigo release by Bob Downes with a total of 16 other musicians. Lots of well-known names such as Ian Carr, Chris Spedding, Kenny Wheeler, Clem Catini, Ray Russell, Herbie Flowers and Harry Beckett.
It’s the twelfth album on Vertigo not the fifth as suggested by the number. I understand that the first 7 came out with a VO prefix.
The cover reminds me of Cal Shenkel’s “Burnt Weeney Sandwich” cover for FZ and the Mothers Of Invention. Bits of mannequin and electrical bits and pieces . But I digress…
On with the main event.......
CONDITION.
The sleeve is in fair condition*. The front, particularly on and around the mannequin head is stained and grimy. The back and inside of the sleeve are fine.
There is light wear to the spine.
The inner “Swirl” sleeve is excellent. Even the glue holding the poly liner has not discoloured much. Quite something for 48 years.
I’ve uploaded separate pictures of the front, back and inside to demonstrate the condition.
The Vinyl is in excellent* condition.
I’ve recorded this copy and have created a “Player” within Ecommerceplayer.com.
http://www.ecommerceplayer.com/MediaPlayer.aspx?id=f47401bd-8369-445b-a6ae-40066e268b83
I used to be able to implant this within an Ebay listing but they have withdrawn this handy facility. Not wishing to struggle with HTML code I’ve opted for a link to this player. If you open the link in a new window you should not lose your place within ebay. I could not drag the cursor forward but could change the playback rate to *2. Fantastic as the speed doubled but the pitch stays the same, the wonders of digital!Set it back to *1 to continue.
(This album recorded on my Linn Sondek turntable using “Audacity”, exported as a 320 kbps MP3 file and uploaded into eCommerce Player. No editing whatsoever even the lead ins are included.)
You can get this album as a new CD but if you are seeking a Vertigo Swirl original then please look over the photos and check out the audio.
Thanks for looking over this item. I've done my best to highlight any deficiencies and again request that you have a listen before placing a bid.
This auction will run for the full time so I’d be obliged if you didn’t ask for a buy it now price.
Apologies for any “typos” and my Cavalier use of upper and lower case text.
I am sure you will be satisfied with your copy of “Electric City”, but should there be any issues with incorrect listing or quality, please contact me via e-mail before leaving negative feedback. Record Collector Magazine's Grading Guide:
MINT: The record itself is in brand new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality. The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in perfect condition. Records advertised as Sealed or Unplayed should be Mint.
EXCELLENT: The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and / or creasing.
VERY GOOD: The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.
GOOD: The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discolouration, etc.
FAIR: The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump. The cover and contents will be torn, stained and / or defaced.
POOR: The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.
BAD: The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection filler.
