'I heard Blood On The Tracks in the half speed mastered vinyl version last night for the first time! It blew me away. The 2% speed DOES make a difference, the vocals are more nuanced, particularly with the cadences at the end of each line, the acoustic guitar sounds fuller, the whole ambience is spacier, the bass is plump and full, it all sounds less scratchy and spikey than the CD. Some of this may be the speed, some may be the vinyl medium, but I strongly recommend you get the means to listen to it; aesthetically it's a whole new ball game!!'

'I've discovered that the Mastersound half-speed vinyl of Blood On The Tracks, which was released in 1981, was actually sourced from the pre-sped up version of the album. The track lengths are such that the album would appear to have been sped up by approx 1.7% before it was officially released. This is backed up by Clinton Heylin in Behind The Shades, where he notes:
As a futher sleight of hand, Dylan seems to have actually sped up the resultant album., both Minneapolis and New York cuts, by two percent, in the mastering - presumably because he found the material dragged a little. The vinyl "half-speed master" evidently used the pre-sped up tape, making for quite a different listening experience.
So in effect, this release forms a third version of the album. Heylin is absolutely correct - it is indeed a different listening experience. A significant reason why you should try and track down this vinyl version.' -------------------------------------------------
