Incredibly rare Columbia Records limited edition featuring Lambert’s pencil-drawn portrait of Dylan. If you’re familiar with Gary Marmorstein “The Label: The Story of Columbia Records” issued by Thunder’s Mouth Press in 2007 then I’m sure that you know that this limited edition included only the very early 1st pressing copies with the -1A / -1A matrix numbers. This information, along with the fact that these copies “were sent out to one region of the country as a test”, is contained on Page 370 of the book. However, what region this limited edition was shipped to remains a mystery. It’s most likely the author means the East Coast. The poster measures 9” x 12” and is located underneath the shrink wrap covering a major part of the back cover. If you slightly pull the portrait you very quickly become certain that this is an early 1st print cover because only the very 1st covers contain the “meaningful” word in the second to last paragraph in the liner notes which was quickly corrected to “Meaningless”. The cover was pressed by Modern Album Finishing Co. in Terre Haute, IN as it contains the “7” number in the lower right-hand corner on the back. It’s interesting that the US issues with the cover containing the “7” were used for the export to Europe. The front cover contains a very early sticker affixed to the shrink wrap informing the buyer about the presence of the poster inside reading “FREE! Includes A Striking Portrait Suitable For Framing”. The portrait of Dylan is printed on a heavy textured paper and the quantity of these posters is unknown. However, considering the edition’s format it can be assumed that it was quite limited. Pay attention to the second hype sticker with a purple text that promotes the single “Like a Rolling Stone” which appeared in charts even before the album was released. There is an assumption that this song wasn’t supposed to be a part of this album with it remaining only a single. This is the 1st Dylan’s album released on the 2-Eye “360 Sound Mono” Columbia Records label variation as the “Guaranteed High Fidelity” labels were discontinued before the album’s release. 1st print 2.75” pressing ring label contains the CL 2389 catalog number above the “Nonbreakable” banner. Pressed at the Columbia Records, Pitman, NJ plant this very early 1st issue contains the true 1st -1A / -1A stampers with the full matrix numbers reading: o XLP110638-A1 3 p 1 / o XLP 110639-A1 1 p. I think that the information concerning Columbia Records released all of their LPs with a clear plastic inner sleeve between 1963 and 1967 isn’t quite correct. Many times I’ve come across copies containing a blue striped inner sleeve with the Columbia Records logo which were released way after 1962. The currently listed copy isn’t an exception and also comes with a blue sleeve. Incredibly rare Columbia Records limited edition copy of Dylan’s 6th studio album released in August, 1965 featuring a drawn portrait of the artist.

The stunning cover is in stunning Near Mint Minus condition. The original factory shrink wrap doesn't have any tears missing pieces or splits, only having some light age shelf wear. The original Columbia Records blue striped inner sleeve is in Near Mint Minus condition and doesn't have any edge splits. I grade the vinyl as Excellent. It retains its beautiful factory gloss and would be Near Mint Minus if it wasn't due to a couple of very light and barely noticeable non-feelable marks and scuffs from the inner sleeve that don't affect the playback in any way. I grade the playback as Near Mint Minus as the vinyl has a crystal clear sound. The beautiful clean labels are in Near Mint Minus condition barely having any spindle marks, and are scuff- and wear-free.
