SIGNED BOB DYLAN UK TOUR POSTER by Tony Garnier
CARDIFF ARENA 27TH JUNE 2006
Tony is Bob's bass player and has been part of his band since the late 1980s (he is the longest serving member of the band!)
I know this is a long story - but please take the time to read it as it is how I got the autograph!!
I went to the Cardiff gig on in June of this year (which I thought was a really good show) - after the show I drove to Bournemouth ready for the show the next day.
It was about 1am and I was filling my car up with petrol in a petrol station in the centre on Bournemouth. I just looked up when I saw Bob's "Beat The Street" tour bus drive by!!! I quickly put the pump back, paid for my petrol and headed off in search of the bus.
By the time I had got around the roundabout I had lost the bus - knowing it couldn't of got too far away I began driving around. About 5 mins later I saw it parked outside the Carlton Grand Hotel (on the seafront). Driving up the road towards the bus I saw staff from the hotel unloading luggage from the bus. The bus drove off again in which I followed it ( I know I sound like a mad stalker - but I'm really not - I would just love the chance to meet Bob or any of his band!).
the bus drove to the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC). Upon arrival the bus parked up but nobody got off. Feeling like Bob and his band were probably back at the hotel and this was just the driver on the bus - i headed off back to the hotel.
When I turned into the street with the hotel on - i could see at the very end of the road in front of the hotel 2 men stood by the road side. This is when i sped up thinking this is my big chance of meeting Bob or someone in the band!!! As i got to the 2 people, one was a hotel porter and the other was the one and only Tony Garnier. I parked my car around the corner and got out. By the time I had got out of my car - Tony had crossed over the road towards the sea view front.
Below is a rough idea of what was said:
I shouted "Tony" over to him and he looked gobsmacked that I had found him. ( I must admit the first thing I noticed about him is that he is bald. he always wears a hat on stage and the only hair he has is on the back and sides gives the impression he has a full head of hair when he has the hat on but he's totally bald on top!!! haha))
He replied in his strong American accent and smoking a huge cigar " hey , I'm meant to be in hiding you are not meant to know I'm here!"
I said " I know but Ive just drove from Cardiff which was a great show and then I saw your bus drive down here"
He thanked me saying he enjoyed the show too and then said he was just getting some air and that he wanted a glass of water!
I told him I liked the new band members and the band have a new great sound. He thanked me again.
I asked him how Larry Campbell was doing and what he was up to, he replied
"I don't know man!"
He signed one of the tour posters that I had bought in Cardiff - gonna frame that for my living room!!!!
He asked me my name, which I replied "John"
I asked what to expect in the set list for the Bournemouth show. He replied
"Who Knows John?"
I asked how the new album sounds and he said
"Its good man!"
I then wished him all the best for the rest of the tour and then made my way back to the car.
He said "goodbye" and walked towards the hotel.
It all happened too quickly and thinking back there are so many things I wish I had asked.
DUE TO A FINANCIAL SITUATION....I HAVE TO SELL THIS POSTER. I HOPE IT GOES TO A GOOD HOME. I REGULARLY USE THE BOB DYLAN FANSITE WWW.EXPECTINGRAIN.COM AND WOULD LOVE FOR THIS POSTER TO GO TO SOMEONE WHO USES THAT SITE.
I HAVE STARTED THE BIDDING LOW TO ENCOURAGE INTEREST.
HAPPY BIDDING!!!
