I'm 72 years old. My kids don't want any of my vinyl records so I'm selling my collection starting with the bootlegs. More to come so save me as a favorite seller.
Every Dylan fan has their favorites, their 10 best lists, and there’s several of them here: Tangled Up In Blue, Gotta Serve Somebody, Forever Young, Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door .... but for me it’s gotta be Hurricane, the protest song to end all protest songs, i’ve heard of poetic and prophetic fury, and, this song is that, plus a fever that burns through the sensationally complex lyrics and the manic, frenetic violin that figure-8s through and around the verses like an adrenalin pumped skater. It shows what art can do and what an artist can do when the full depth of all his emotion, his shock and genius rages through a song .... Rage, Rage against the dying of the light, the dying of the light in Rubin Carter’s eyes as he ‘sits like Buddha in a ten-foot cell’. It’s a one of a kind song, not much nostalgia in it for old-timers, but plenty of kindling to ignite a prophet’s rage and denunciation. For me it is Dylan’s all time greatest, compares in intensity and impact with Tom Joad’s speech in Steinbeck's Grapes of Wrath and Spike Lee’s Do the Right Thing. The more times you hear it the more times it burns through to the truth that ‘couldn’t help but feel ashamed to live in a country / where justice is a game’. These were all cutting edge songs when they were first released, they’re cutting edge now. In 2021, replaying Hurricane and all these songs again and again, maybe cuts even deeper. Comes with two printed inner sleeves. Yeah, You Gotta Serve Somebody.
