NEWARK: A memorial service for Robert W. "Bob" Long, well known local entertainer, will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2011, at 4 P.M., at Brucker-Kishler Funeral Home with Pastor Mike Lee officiating.
Mr. Long passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, November 8, 2011, at Riverside Hospital in Columbus. He was born November 10, 1942, in Boone County, WV, a son of the late Harry and Juanita (Angus) Long. Mr. Long worked for the B&O Railroad in West Virginia, moved to Newark retiring from Owens Corning Fiberglas after 27 years service and operated Long Building Maintenance. For 14 years he was involved with the United Way of Licking County, was four term and current president of the Newark Eagles; three time past master of Crusader Lodge #720 F&AM; enjoyed fishing, golfing and loved "all his animals". He was also a member of the VFW American Legion and the Druids.
He will be remembered as an entertainer in the community for his "Memories Of Elvis" concerts. Mr. Long performed at the Holiday Inn in Heath for 17 years and in many venues all over central Ohio.
Surviving are his wife, Nancy J. Long, whom he married December 31, 1978; his children, (Chuck) Harry B. Long, II of Newark, Jennifer J. Long-Holmes and fiancé Ryan Bubb of Newark; step daughter Lisa Fries of Newark; four grandchildren, Olivia, Elijah, Jordan, Jesse; sister, Ethel (Albert) Cogan of Newark; brother, David (Sue) Long of Newark; his mother in law, Dottie Laughlin of Newark; sister and brother in law, Joyce (Robert) Durham of TX; his former wife, Mary Jo (Sue) Long of Newark and special friends, Tom Newman and Connie Sanders.
