Description

Bob Marley and the Wailers - Catch a Fire - vinyl LP in Zippo lighter sleeve. - ILPS 9241. 1st Press crossed out matrix.  1973 (not a re-issue) Rare!

Classic LP in excellent condition. 

The record itself is in VG+ condition (Very Good Plus): Better than Very Good, has obviously been played but no significant deterioration in sound quality. There are no visible surface marks, scratches or scuff. Very slight surface noise on the inter track breaks. No scratches or pops when playing. Sounds rich and organic with deep bass and clear treble.

Note re Label: UK Pink Island Rim 1st press WITH A-3U & B-4U ENDING MATRIX NUMBERS BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY CROSSED OUT MATRIXES ON BOTH SIDES MAKING IT THE CORRECT 1ST PRESS.

Matrix markings on the run out are as follows (see photos for details).

A Side - BML 2001 A 3U (crossed out) - ILPS 9241 A 3U

B Side - BML 2001 B 4U (crossed out) - ILPS 9241 B 4U

Catologue number: ILPS 9241

Disc Centre is the Island Label with the pink outer band.

The above information indicates that this is an early pressing.

The Zippo Lighter sleeve is in very good condition. The riveted hinge is fully attached and operates smoothly. There is some scuffing of the sleeve in the area of the hinge and along the spine as befits the age of the LP.

Island records released Bob Marley on Blue Mountain Label until 1973. This crossed with Catch A Fire recorded in 1972. Hence the original BML inscription crossed through on the first pressing master and the Island inscription added.
