Description

Sealed; absolutely stunning copy of Bob Weir 1st solo album, though all members of the Grateful Dead from this era except Pigpen play / are credited on the album. Warner Brothers Records BS 2627.  I’ve owned this album since late 1990’s.  99% sure but can’t be positive until record is opened that LP inside cover is a White Label Promotional copy.  Person I acquired record from worked at Arista records at that time but had work for various labels in NYC most of his adult life; but that in and of itself isn’t a slam dunk clue that copy is a promotional not for sale white label LP.  First, and leading indicator would be the bio / promo sheet pictured sealed under the shrink on the back cover.  Second is the placement of the hype sticker Bob “Ace” Weir of the Grateful Dead on the front cover lower right under the shrink.  If you look at the US promo copy from 1972 on discogs for this record; cover shows hype sticker removed from exact same spot.  Also recent Near Mijt opened copy listed on eBay auction Style had sticker on cover in same area. That copy sold for nearly $200 + shipping. I mention because I followed listing knowing I had a sealed copy researching what similar copies were selling for.  From what I can tell from pictures for other First Pressing copies with Hype Sticker..they are applied to shrink, not on cover, either on top right or top left of front cover.  Picture of Bob on the rear cover is also only on first pressing and promo copies, later pressings have a different picture and hype sticker.  Picture on those copies is headshot not full image of Bob. Hype sticker on later pressings says Bob Weir with the Grateful Dead.
So at minimum this is an established 1st pressing.  Fact that bio sheet is included and states that the album ‘ACE is scheduled for release in May’…further substantiates that copy pictured was an advanced promotional WLP copy. Either way this is an amazing condition 1st Press at the bare minimum.  See pictures.  Please excuse any glare. Shrink is shiny and reflects shadows / mirror image of me holding phone to picture. Color / luster of cover is consistently Minty on entire front avd rear. Picture of rear cover especially shows a dark shadow on lower section. That is from the mirror image of me standing in front of to photograph. Tiny corner pull bend , not creased, to lower right corner where hype sticker is.  Shrink is pulled tight.  Tiny wear to top left corner on top seam. Not crushed or bent ..just a micro section of wear to top.  Has sat in an audiophile 5 mil ultra clear / rigid outer sleeve on a shelf with other Grateful Dead related records since purchase.
