Recorded on February 8, 1966, and released in January 1967 after Blue Note's sale to Liberty. Earliest pressings used stocked New York USA labels, but did not have the Plastylite "ear" stamp
Bobby Hutcherson's first quartet outing, Happenings casts the brightest spotlight on the vibraphonist's soloing abilities, matching him once again with pianist Herbie Hancock  (who is also heavily featured) and drummer Joe Chambers, plus bassist Bob Cranshaw  For that matter, the album also leans heavily on Hutcherson's compositional skills; save for Hancock's Maiden Voyage," six of the seven numbers are Hutcherson originals. Given his reputation as a modernist, most of the pieces here are structured pretty simply -- there's a lot of straightforward modal hard bop, giving Hutcherson and Hancock plenty of room to solo. They handle much of the material with a light, mellow touch, trading off meditative licks even on the more up-tempo pieces and poignant, lyrical lines on the ballads "Bouquet" and "When You Are Near." The two exceptions are the opening and closing numbers: "Aquarian Moon" is challenging post-bop, while the sinister "The Omen" finds Hutcherson opening up the bag of tricks he learned from the freely structured group dialogues Chambers wrote for albums past. Sharp stabs from the piano signal transition to a new, sometimes unaccompanied lead instrument, and Hutcherson's darting marimba lines build up a claustrophobic tension. That doesn't change the overall feel of the album, though, which ends up a charmingly relaxed, low-key outing and a nice addition to Hutcherson's Blue Note catalog. (ALL MUSIC)

Some incredible songs on this 1967 album from composer Reid King who married the Brazilian sound with
popular music of that era to produce an album that should have really taken off then, but due to the strange
setup of Canterbury Records who were in business to lose money for a Mattel tax shelter, the album was allowed
to die on the vine by Canterbury when it started to take off with airplay and sales.  Reid King went on to become
one of the foremost composers of contemporary music for the gut-string guitar.

FINALLY ONE LAST WORD RE HAIRLINES, IT IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND ANY NON SEALED RECORD WITHOUT THEM, MANY HAD THEM FROM NEW. MOSTLY THEY ARE A RESULT OF STORAGE AND USE AND USUALLY HAVE LITTLE IMPACT ON THE SOUND QUALITY. THE SAME GOES FOR BACKGROUND NOISE, UNFORTUNATELY ALL RECORDS WILL HAVE SOME AND THIS VARIES AND REFLECTS THE PRESSING QUALITY. 

Most records have production marks where someone touched or moved the vinyl while it was still semi-soft.  These marks look like smudges, but are not scratches or "paper scuffs" and do not usually sound.  Untouched vinyl from newly-opened records have these marks.

Near Mint - Looks rarely played, very shiny with no visible marks

Excellent to Excellent Plus - A disc is super clean, with only very light visible marks that do not hamper play

Excellent minus is a disc that is excellent except it may have some markings that do not show up in the playing

VG+ AND VG++  - A Disc that is still in good shape, but will have some hairlines and minor superficial scratches with none deep that will not hamper play

VG   A Disc that has minor scratches, some can be felt with a fingernail and can be heard as surface noise but nothing to spoil the overall enjoyment play

VG Minus - A record that has been well enjoyed, Still playable with minor imperfections such as light scratches, visible scuffing etc.
