Description

Boccherini-arr. Grutzmacher: 'Cello Concerto in B Flat
Major. Pablo Casals,'cello; London Symphony Orchestra
conducted by Sir Landon Ronald, Victor Set M-381
(3-12" first edition early gold Red Seal Victor discs
14500/02. Original album; notes. A musical artifact
from the past. Until after WWII audiences heard
this concerto in this Grutzmacher version.  In the
latter half of the 20th century the outer movements
were played with very lively tempi but the slow
movement remained in the tempo heard in this
recording.  The HMV engineers caught
the verile sound of Casals' cello. Sir Landon
Ronald's last recording session. They also made
Bruch's Kol Nidre at this valedictory 1935 session.
Mint condition.



 

From the private collection of R. Peter Munves, who was in the record business as well as an avid collector for over 50 years and has decided to part with his beloved collection.
