This stunning audiophile LP from Universal Classics Japan (UCJG-9013, Japanese pressing, white circle label, heavy jacket and vinyl, stereo, no OBI) features Karl Böhm’s resplendent account of Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 in C minor Op. 68, richly recorded in the warm acoustics of Jesus-Christus-Kirche, Berlin, in October 1963 and first issued by DG on 138 113 SLPM.

These Japanese audiophile pressing from Universal Classics are quite remarkable – both the jacket and LP are quite thick and highly attractive – outstanding issues in every way.

The executive producer for these sessions was Otto Gerdes, the recording supervisor Hans Weber, and the engineer Günter Hermanns.

Titles are in English; the remaining text (including the liner notes) are in Japanese. The striking cover photo of Bohm is uncredited.

CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:

The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.

The condition of the jacket is near-MINT. Really there are no flaws to speak of and the album appears virtually as new. There are no seamsplits, bends, or owners' markings, and the album remains solid, bright, and highly attractive in appearance – overall, an outstanding collector's copy.

The condition of the LP itself is near-MINT. Though the surfaces are not perfectly silent (and thus I have rated it NM vs. MINT) this is a fine copy and playback is superb. If you must have perfect surfaces, then please do not buy this LP. Overall, this rates as a NM collector's copy.

This LP has been carefully cleaned using a VPI cleaning machine. All LPs are provided with a new Nagaoka (or Nagaoka-style) inner sleeve.
