This split EP comes care of British label Invada records (run by Geoff Barrow of Portishead). The other artist here is Joe Volk, who was the original singer in Gonga and Crippled Black Phoenix and released his debut solo album on Invada in 2006. His two songs here, ‘Call to Sun’ and ‘Finland’, are predominantly acoustic with additional strings and sparse vocals.
Boris delivered one song in three defined parts. Beyond post rock or shoegaze classifications, this is a soaring track filled with beauty and melody but still with a climax of roaring guitars.
Originally released on limited edition blue vinyl and green vinyl variants (now sold out) as well as a larger run on black vinyl.
Because of the practical role test press records play in vinyl manufacturing, there is almost always no artwork or aesthetic component to them. For this reason, all the records that made up the NYD auctions came in custom sleeves made by the band. The outside cover has the 'Heavy Rocks Party' logo on the front with a band photo (circa 2021) on the inside. Each sleeve also came signed by each member of the band.
