ITEM DESCRIPTION:
This very rare LP from Les Discophiles Français (DF 122, French pressing, white/blue label, mono – no stereo edition exists) features Willi Boskovsky and Lili Kraus's radiant accounts of Mozart's Violin Sonatas in A Major K. 305, in F Major K. 57, and in B-flat Major K. 454, made in the warm acoustics of the Brahmssaal, Vienna, in January 1951. This is exalted chamber music-making by any measure and both artists prove illuminating guides to these remarkable sonatas, the great B-flat Major Sonata K. 454 in particular – playing from a bygone age.
There are insightful and eloquent liner notes on the reverse side of the jacket by Claude Rostand, printed in French only.
CONDITION – PLEASE READ CAREFULLY:
The gradations of condition I use are as follows: MINT, Near-Mint, Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, Poor.
The condition of the jacket is GOOD (Note: This is near the bottom of my own grading scale and at the bottom of eBay's scale). Both the top and lower edges have been tape repaired. There is signficant edgewear, particularly at corners, as well as creasing and discoloration. However, the jacket remains solid and presentation worthy – not a collector's copy, but still a decent one.
The condition of the LP itself is EXCELLENT. Though the surfaces are not absolutely silent, and there is slightly more surface noise in K. 454, this is a fine copy and the playback is quite superb. However, those requiring flawless or NM surfaces are advised to look elsewhere. In all, this rates as an excellent collector's copy.
