Rare 78rpm - Boswell Sisters accomp. by Dorsey Bros. Orch . 1934 recording Issued ONLY in Australia Recorded in New York, May 23, 1934 ... 90 years ago ! "The Darktown Strutters' Ball" was only released in Australia (No other 78rpm Issues anywhere) Reverse is "Alexander's Ragtime Band" - recorded at the same session, and released on Brunswick in the U.S.
Since I first heard this title, it has been a favorite... a great recording and a somewhat different arrangement by the fabulous Boswells. Why it was never released other than Australia remains a puzzle.... Maybe Jack Kapp didn't like it, or he was just busy getting ready to quit Brunswick at this time, to form American Decca.
